Trainer: Nelson Turek
Trainee/s:
1) Janson Higgins
2) Ryan Bruner
3) Valory Castano
4) Julia Stamman
Follow: Day 2 Runner Training (closing shift)
Please give a brief overview of the trainee/s performance during their follow, including strengths and weaknesses. List each in order if multiple trainees are present.
1) Janson Higgins - Seems newer to the service industry. Needs direction, but can stay on task. He seems to be eager to work, but unsure of what to do. Forgot silverware with a few items, but this wasnt an issue later in the shift. Improvement in pace and dish etiquette, but not ducking and table lingering.
2) Ryan Bruner - Definitely a service vet. Was finishing my sentences all night. Very useful though. Quick learner. Has trouble navigating theaters, but quick when he knows where he's going. Also pulled some flags when lights were down, but servers were still greeting. Kinda in that grey area. Task oriented, good with instructions. Not exactly quick with dishes, though. And a little eager to talk to people. All in all a strong work ethic.
3) Valory Castano - Quiet, but seemed to open up a bit once she saw Keanu was working. Eager to accept directions and followed them well, but has trouble with direction. Had a few elementary mistakes (forgetting silverware, order of running, had to be reminded of napkins) but showed improvement when issues were addressed. Willing to learn and good natured. Theater presence and pace may be an issue, they were the two areas I didn't see an improvement on at the end of the night.
4) Julia Stamman - (yeah, guys. she's my girlfriend. Jeez.) Actually did forget silverware on one or two locations, but once we got around to 8 she had it figured out. Switched her hands up once in a theater also, and dropped off food to the wrong table, but also realized it and fixed it herself. Also got a little drink running in and handled it well. Good improvement, but should work on ducking and being quick at tables.
If Day Three Follow, please post trainee/s Certification score and/or retake score.
N/A
What roles do you see the trainee/s attaining in their future with the Alamo Drafthouse family?
1) Janson Higgins - Unsure
2) Ryan Bruner - Server
3) Valory Castano - Interested in bar.
4) Julia Stamman - unsure
Did you cover all topics on the Follow Card?
Yes
Do you feel that the trainee/s was given enough guidance?
Yes. Valory and Janson probably need the most attention though. Ryan may have gotten the least, but only due to his aptitude.
What was something you learned from this train?
We give the new runners one shirt per shift, so it's each trainer's responsibility to give them a shirt on each shift! I completely forgot their shirts in the office. They're in a pile next to the printer. Also make sure to time your breaks accurately!
What feedback do you have to improve our training efforts?
Scheduling theater cleans back to back is nice because you can see how they work with random servers, but three in a row leaves little room for everything to get done on time. I got everyone 2 cleans, but again, I had some scheduling issues. Really just because I figured we'd go in as 5 and clean a theater together and knock 'em out quick, instead of having to split up. I think with larger groups, it's easier to split and run back and forth.
