Follow: Day 2 Runner Training
Please give a brief overview of the trainee/s performance during their follow, including strengths and weaknesses. List each in order if multiple trainees are present.
1) Sarah Mercado - Very adept runner. Easily went out on her own and even ran a few drinks. Forgot several things toward the start, like napkins and silverware, but improved with time. While she seemed to understand the drafthouse very well, she seemed a little confused about flag pulling and when/how it worked (like when to ask questions about orders.) She may need to focus in this area. Did great with theater cleans and stayed on top of bathroom checks. Strong candidate for serving, with some skill polishing of course.
2) Caroline Rojas - Lack of food service was a little obvious, definitely seemed hesitant about the dish area as well as other messes. Can run food very well. Good sense of urgency and an all around hard worker. If anything she seemed frustrated that we weren't doing more. She also had trouble with napkins and remembering to write her name on the tickets, but nothing that time can't fix.
3) Richard Milbourn - Very much an independent worker. Did a lot better once I split him off and let him handle his own trays. Short term memory may be a problem, though. I would remind him of things, like checking for flags, and he would forget the next time he ran out. Did seem to improve as the night went on. He asked tons of questions and wanted explanations, not answers. Excellent learner in that regard.
4) Patrick (MIT, didn't ask his last name) Was more interested in seeing how running worked, only ran a few items and a few drinks. He left early before closing duties were covered, but I know they're on a tighter schedule. If Day Three Follow, please post trainee/s Certification score and/or retake score.

What roles do you see the trainee/s attaining in their future with the Alamo Drafthouse family?
1) Sarah Mercado - Serving/Bar
2) Caroline Rojas - Server
3) Richard Milbourn - Server/Bar
Did you cover all topics on the Follow Card?
Mmmmmhm
Do you feel that the trainee/s was given enough guidance?
Yes
What was something you learned from this train?
Problem solving training starts at day one. There is not going to be any way to handle every issue that pops up and then explain your process afterwards, so it's better to touch on it before they hit the floor. Also, with smart groups of people this isn't as much as an issue because they can figure it out themselves.
What feedback do you have to improve our training efforts?
Training meeting sounds like a great idea. Maybe start of each month or something? Oh neither of the girls got their second shirt because we were out of smalls. Also if we had better quality squeeges, and at least one for each section( bar, kitchen, runners, bathrooms) we could get the floors done more effectively. Those things seem to get torn up so fast.
